Outstaff Hiring: Remote — Contract (Full-time, Long-term)
About the Role
Our client is looking for a Senior Java Engineer to join a focused modernization and security remediation project for a global financial news and data platform.
You’ll work on a mature production system, identifying and resolving security vulnerabilities, upgrading legacy dependencies, and improving the stability of Java-based search and API services. This role requires someone who enjoys understanding complex legacy systems and can confidently make safe, well-tested improvements.
You’ll also leverage GenAI coding tools (such as Claude or similar) to accelerate development and remediation work.
Location: Remote (EU)
Engagement: Full-time, long-term contract
Start Date: ASAP
Language: English
Time Zone: European business hours with 2-3 hours EST overlap
Responsibilities
* Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities across Java applications.
* Upgrade outdated Java libraries and frameworks while minimizing regression risks.
* Improve the stability and maintainability of search services and APIs.
* Support modernization of the NewsEdge platform and OPENS API.
* Collaborate with application and database teams on cross-functional changes.
* Perform testing and validation to ensure production-ready deployments.
* Use GenAI coding tools to improve development efficiency.
Requirements
Must-have
* 5+ years of commercial Java development experience.
* Strong experience working with large, legacy Java codebases.
* Proven ability to troubleshoot, prioritize, and resolve complex technical issues.
* Experience using AI coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or similar).
* Experience with search technologies such as:
* Apache Lucene
* Elasticsearch
* Apache Solr
* Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
* Good understanding of software maintenance, dependency management, and production support.
* Strong written and spoken English.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
* Experience with security remediation projects.
* Experience modernizing enterprise applications.
* Familiarity with financial services or news/data platforms.
