About the role We are looking for an Algorithmic Trading R&D Engineer / Software Engineer to help us research, test, improve, and implement algorithmic trading strategies.
This is not a regular backend role and not a pure trader role. The ideal candidate combines software engineering, analytical thinking, interest in financial markets, and the ability to separate real trading signal from backtest illusion.
Depending on the candidate’s strengths, this role may be more research-focused or more engineering-focused. We are open to hiring either one strong hybrid specialist or two complementary people: one stronger in strategy research and one stronger in implementation. What you will work on You will help the team research, validate, improve, and implement systematic trading ideas and trading tools.
Your responsibilities may include: * Researching trading ideas, market patterns, indicators, price action logic, and systematic trading hypotheses. * Translating trading ideas into clear, testable rules. * Building and improving backtests using historical market data. * Running out-of-sample tests, walk-forward tests, forward tests, and paper trading validation. * Analyzing strategy performance, drawdowns, risk/reward, win rate, expectancy, slippage, commissions, and market regime changes. * Reviewing existing trading logic and identifying why it may fail in live market conditions. * Developing indicators, alerts, scripts, bots, and automated trading logic. * Working with market data, broker/exchange APIs, execution logic, logs, and monitoring tools. * Documenting assumptions, test results, risks, limitations, and next steps for each strategy.
Two possible candidate profilesProfile A: Strategy / Trading Research Focus You may be a good fit if you are more of a trader, trading strategy researcher, or quant-minded analyst.
We expect you to understand markets deeply and be able to generate, structure, and evaluate trading hypotheses.
Relevant experience: * Systematic trading, discretionary trading, futures, forex, crypto, equities, options, or similar markets. * Strong understanding of technical analysis, price action, market structure, volatility, liquidity, trend, mean reversion, breakouts, or order flow. * Ability to explain why a strategy may have an edge. * Experience testing strategies and understanding why strategies stop working. * Ability to structure trading logic in a way that can be tested and implemented. * Coding ability is a plus, but not mandatory if your trading research skills are strong.
Profile B: Engineering / Algorithmic Trading Development Focus You may be a good fit if you are more of a software engineer who understands trading.
We expect you to be able to take a trading idea and turn it into clean, testable, reliable code.
Relevant experience: * Building backtests, trading tools, indicators, bots, dashboards, or trading automation. * Experience with one or more programming languages or trading platforms. * Examples may include C#, C++, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, R, MATLAB, Rust, Go, Pine Script, NinjaScript, MQL4/MQL5, or similar. * Experience with TradingView, NinjaTrader, MetaTrader, QuantConnect, Interactive Brokers, crypto exchanges, broker APIs, or similar platforms. * Working with REST APIs, WebSockets, market data, broker/exchange integrations, and order execution. * Understanding of spread, slippage, commissions, latency, order types, position sizing, and risk management. * Git and clean engineering practices.
Required skills * Real experience with trading systems, trading research, or trading-related software. * Strong software engineering skills in at least one relevant language or trading platform. * Ability to think critically about strategy performance and avoid overfitting. * Understanding that backtested results are not the same as live trading results. * Ability to work with data, test assumptions, and explain conclusions clearly. * Understanding of risk, drawdown, execution costs, and market regime changes. * Strong communication skills. * Ability to document research, test results, risks, and next steps. * Comfortable working remotely and independently.
Nice to have * Experience with futures, indexes, forex, crypto, equities, options, or prop trading environments. * Experience with NinjaTrader, TradingView, MetaTrader, QuantConnect, Interactive Brokers API, Binance API, Bybit API, or similar platforms. * Knowledge of market microstructure, execution logic, statistical testing, machine learning, portfolio analytics, or risk analytics. * Experience building commercial trading tools, signal systems, dashboards, or licensing-protected indicators. * Experience reviewing existing strategies and identifying weaknesses. * Experience with cloud infrastructure, Docker, databases, monitoring, or trading system deployment.
Important note We are not looking for unrealistic promises, “guaranteed profit” claims, or black-box magic.
We are looking for a serious, analytical person who can research, test, validate, and improve trading strategies using realistic assumptions, risk controls, and transparent documentation.
The right person should understand that every strategy has limitations, that market regimes change, and that proper validation is as important as implementation. What we offer * Remote work. * Flexible format: full-time, part-time, or contract. * Opportunity to work on real trading products and trading automation. * Combination of research, engineering, and practical implementation. * Direct communication with decision-makers. * Room to grow into a lead role if the collaboration is successful.
How to apply Please include in your response: * Your relevant experience with trading, strategy research, or trading software. * Examples of strategies, indicators, bots, backtests, dashboards, or trading tools you have worked on. * Programming languages, platforms, and trading tools you have experience with. * Your strongest area: strategy research, quant analysis, software development, or hybrid. * A short explanation of how you usually validate whether a trading strategy has a real edge. * Your hourly rate / salary expectations and availability.
